Information available for Older Drivers
The leaflet 'Motor Insurance for Older Drivers' is available at the ABI's website: www.abi.org.uk and outlines the options on shopping around for the best deal, how to cut the cost of cover and how to ensure you are covered when hiring a car.
Organisations like Age Concern and the ABI can help elderly drivers with the information they need, such as the upper age limit for insuring new older drivers, which is now 82 compared to 74 ten years ago.
They are also helpful with telling people how savings can be made. For example, one 78-year-old man driving a Mazda saved £127 by shopping around. An 80-year-old woman driving a Vauxhall Corsa saved £80 by shopping around.
So talk to one of these organisations for more information. As the number of elderly drivers on the road increases, it is something more of us are going to have to think about for the future.
